Linda asks…
Does anybody have any advice for Minecraft mods?
I’m using a mac, and I play Minecraft, lately I’ve been trying to use the xray mod, but for some reason, when I follow the instructions that are on the same website I downloaded the mod from, it doesn’t work. Can anybody help me put this mod on the game? A full walkthrough of how to use the mod would be wonderful. Thanks.

admin answers:
1. Download the mod.
2. Extract the file contents on the downloaded file.
3. Go to your Hard Drive in the Finder, click users, click your username, click library, click application support, click minecraft, then click bin.
4. Right click the minecraft.jar file and click open with, then select Archive Utility. (You may need to change the extension on the minecraft.jar file to minecraft.zip.)
5. Once extracted, copy the contents from the downloaded file you extracted and place them into the extracted folder that came from the minecraft.jar. (If your mod comes with folders that need to be copied into the folder, then don’t overwrite the folder, copy it manually to avoid deleting class files needed for minecraft operation.)
6. Once you are done copying the files, delete the META-INF folder in the minecraft folder you created. (This is a vital step.)
7. Next, make sure you select one of the class files in the minecraft folder you extracted, hold command+A to select all the files in the extracted folder, then right click and select compress X items. (The amount of items should be in the hundreds.)
8. Look for the Archive.zip file you created by compressing all the files. It should be inside the folder. (Set “Arrange By” to name to make it easier to find.)
9. Copy the Archive.zip file to the bin folder.
10. Rename your original minecraft.jar (or .zip) to minecraft_1.8.1.jar so you have a copy of the original if you need to start again.
11. Rename the archive.zip file to minecraft.jar.
12. Start minecraft like normal and you should be all set assuming you followed all the steps correctly and the mod you are using is meant for the correct version of minecraft you modded.

Minecraft mod problems on a mac, help please?
I have installed mods before but wanted to get rid of one so reinstalled minecraft and tried to install mo creatures again but i keep getting a black screen. I have recently updated to the full version of minecraft and tried to install the new SPC but I’m still getting a black screen. Also no matter what version of Mo Creatures I try it still crashes. I have followed all the instructions for each mod to the letter and deleted the META.inf file every time. Any help would be great. Also my Mac is at version 10.7.2 if that is any help or makes any difference.

If you have modloader installed, which i think u need anyway, goto ur username in finder, then library, app support, minecraft, then find the modloader.txt file. Copy the text from there. Then we can help you.It will give a more detailed summary of what is happening.
